The Marian Smoluchowski Symposium on Statistical Physics is a cyclic scientific meeting which has been taken place
annually in Poland since 1988.
Brief information about history, scope and previous Symposia is available
here.
The idea of creating an international scientific meeting focused on recent achievements in statistical physics and applications had been put forward by professor Andrzej Fulinski
whose personal attitude towards science, philosophy and art placed him at the position of a non-standard mentor to many of us who benefited from his criticism, vigorous discussions and deep remarks.
The conference takes name after the famous Polish physicist who made huge contributions in the natural science and foundation
of statistical physics. Links to the most important scientific works by Marian Smoluchowski are available
here.
The conference is traditionally organized under the patronage of the Mark Kac Complex Systems Research Center at
the Jagiellonian University and the consortium of other Polish academic institutions.
In 2014 those are:
Wrocaw University of Technology and
Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Science.
The XXVIIth meeting will take place in Zakopane, a mountain resort located about 90 km from Krakow.
We expect all participants to arrive to Krakow on the day of departure to Zakopane (September 22nd). There will be a conference bus leaving for Zakopane from the Institute of Physics, Jagiellonian University on late afternoon. On the September 26th, there will be a return bus from Zakopane to Krakow as well.
