Travel tips
Arrival (Sunday, May 31, 2009)
We recommend that you take one of the flights to Krakow (see the Krakow Airport web page) arriving in Krakow before 5 p.m. We will provide a conference bus from Krakow to Zakopane on May 31 at 6 p.m. from the Institute of Physics Reymonta Street 4. If your plane arrives later than 5 p.m. you might consider arriving one day earlier and staying one night in Krakow, or continue by regular bus to Zakopane. You will need less than 1 hr to get by train from the airport to the bus terminal, and approximately 2.5 hrs to get to Zakopane by bus. There are many buses to Zakopane, the last one departing at 10:05 p.m. (please consult the timetable: type in Zakopane in the dialog box, check only the buses departing from DWORZEC AUTOBUSOWY).
Departure (Wednesday, June 10, 2009)
The conference bus will depart to Krakow right after early breakfast at approximately 9 a.m. allowing you to catch flights leaving Krakow after 12 (noon). Regular bus service from Zakopane starts before 6 a.m. allowing you to catch flights departing from Krakow at 10 a.m. approximately. After arriving in Krakow bus terminal you have to change for the airport train and then take a shuttle to the international/domestic terminal.
Free day (Friday, June 5, 2009)
If you cannot stay for the whole period of the School you might consider departing or arriving on June 5.

From Krakow airport to the Institute of Physics, 4 Reymonta str.
If you arrive in Krakow early enough take bus #292 and get off at the AGH bus stop or take bus #208 and get off at the Czarnowiejska bus stop (see the map ). You can also take the train to the main train station (tickets on board or in vending machines) and then bus #179 direction Kurdwanow or bus #292 direction Airport to the AGH bus stop or taxi directly to the Institute of Physics.

It will be possible to leave luggage in the Institute of Physics. Some of our students will be there to help you in getting around.
Tickets for trams and buses can be purchased in kiosks at the airport upper level or directly from the driver (with small surcharge)
From Krakow airport to the train/bus station and then to Zakopane
Take the train to the main train station (tickets on board or in vending machines) and then take the underground passage to the Eastern side where the bus depot is located (see satelite photo). Buses to Zakopane leave from the upper level of the bus depot, last ones at 9:05 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. (please consult the timetable: type in Zakopane in the dialog box, check only the buses departing from DWORZEC AUTOBUSOWY). Tickets (approximately 20 zloty) can be purchased at the ticket box or from the driver. After arriving in Zakopane take a taxi to "Bankowiec", 14 Bulwary Slowackiego.
Taxis in Krakow
Prices for taxis in Krakow are not regulated by law and the prices for the same ride can differ as much as factor of 2. Although the rates are displayed on the windows, it is hard to figure out whether they are high or low. The rule of the thumb is to call one of the big taxi companies or to take a taxi that is clearly marked with a telephone number starting from 19... and the name of the company (like Barbakan, Rotunda, Grosik, Partner or MPT 19191 that is serving Krakow airport). Then the ride from the airport to the city should not exceed 60-70 zloty on working days and 20 zloty in the city centre.
In Zakopane
See Google map of Zakopane including conference site and bus/train stations. Conference site is 30 min. uphill walking from the bus station, so we recommend that you take a taxi.

Weather in Zakopane
Typically weather in Zakopane is very unstable this time of
the year. One can expect both high temperatures and Sun
and heavy rains or even snow. Check local weather at

Note that Tatra Mountains are of Alpine character and hiking requires good hiking or trecking shoes. Presently there is still a lot of snow in the upper parts, so warm jacket is also required. Please see http://www.ezakopane.pl/poland/equipment.html
