The first measurements using the (d,p) transfer reaction to study single-particle states in nuclei on the expected r-process path have been made at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility. The shell closure at  N=50  has been crossed using the 82Ge(d,p) and 84Se(d,p) reactions. The properties of the lowest-lying states have been determined. Furthermore, the 132Sn(d,p) reaction has been used for the first time to populate single-particle states in 133Sn.
