We describe methods to identify \tau leptons produced in high energy p\bar p collisions (\sqrt  s = 1.96 GeV) at the Tevatron, using the D\T1\O \ detector. Different procedures used for discrimination against background particles misidentified as taus are also discussed. Finally, we present some physics results obtained using these methods to illustrate their performance.
