The spontaneous fission of 258Fm has been analysed in the constrained Hartree--Fock--Bogolubov calculations. The bimodal fission in this nucleus has been explained. The single particle energies and densities on the fission path have been investigated. The pre-scission formation of the fission fragments have been found.
