Tunneling Spectroscopy of the Energy Gap in MgB2 Under Magnetic Fields

Toshikazu Ekino, Tomoaki Takasaki, Hironobu Fujii, Takahiro Muranaka, Jun Akimitsu

Effects of magnetic field on the multiple-gap structure in the superconductor MgB2 have been studied by break junctions. With increasing the field, the gap value decreases with filling up of the states inside of the gap. The gap-closing field Bc correlates with the gap size. The extrapolated Bc value for the larger gap is almost consistent with the upper critical field of this compound.
