Status of the OPERA Long Baseline Experiment

M. Besnier

OPERA (Oscillation Project with Emulsion tRacking Apparatus) is an international collaboration (Europe–Asia) aiming to give the first direct proof of \nu \tau appearance in a pure \nu \mu beam, in order to validate the \nu \mu \rightarrow \nu \tau atmospheric oscillation hypothesis. OPERA has already obtained good results with electronic detectors during the first CNGS run in August 2006, and neutrino interactions have been observed in OPERA-like target with the PEANUT test beam at Fermilab in 2005.
